Garner State Park '05 - Ride and Camping Trip - Part II |
|
We just can't get enough! So, we are going back again! Come on and join us again, or if you missed the last trip, come on and make this one! Just a mere 350 miles from the Dallas Metroplex, according to Mapquest. Now doing it by TX 21 maps this still keeps it under 500 miles, so this will be a great ride. We will be leaving on Friday the 14th of October at 8:00 am from the IHOP in Waxahachie. Please arrive 30 minutes early to give us time to organize into ride groups. The first group will leave at 8:00 am. We will have a Road Captains meeting before we leave for the purpose of discussing the route, stops, and road rules before pulling out. Remember, as for all rides, show up with a FULL TANK OF GAS, AND AN EMPTY BLADDER. We never know about the weather (look at last years pictures) but there will be a lot of us camping. The park also has shelters/cabins available for those that don't want to camp. Reserve your cabin early to insure you get one! Ride Texas Magazine Readers Choice Awards Top
Ten Motorcycle Trip Lodging D'Rose Inn & Cabins was chosen as one of the top ten motorcycle lodging places by riders in the state of Texas. It is in Leakey and after September 1st, will be for motorcyclists only. This is an alternative to staying in the park. We have had members stay there before and they were very pleased with the owners and the rooms. Just click on their logo to get information about reservations on their website. As always, we do not want to go off and leave anyone, so if you are planning on going with us please click on " I'm going..." at the bottom of this page and let us know so we can check our list before we pull out. VISIT THE GARNER STATE PARK OFFICIAL WEB SITE History: Garner State Park is found in the northern part of Uvalde County. Located thirty miles north of Uvalde and seven miles north of Con Can, Garner State Park has ten acres of riverfront. The park, was acquired in 1934-36 and was named for John Nance Garner (Cactus Jack) of Uvalde, who served as Vice-president of the United States from 1933-41. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) made the park’s original improvements.
Activities: Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock here each year to
enjoy its matchless vacation facilities. They swim in the clear waters of
the Frio River, scoot its rapids on inner tubes, rent pedal boats, and
hike its fascinating nature trails. On long summer evenings, young folks
(and the young at heart) meet at the concession building for jukebox
dancing every night during the summer season. Nearby is a miniature golf
course, which is lighted for nighttime playing. Meals and snacks are
served in the concession building, though many families prefer to take
advantage of the many camping sites and do their own cooking. A limited
number of cabins are available for rent. The park offers camping, hiking,
nature study, picnicking, canoeing, fishing, swimming in the Frio River
(unsupervised), seasonal miniature golf, paddle boat and kayak rentals
(mid-March through Labor Day weekend), bike riding (surfaced). For all of our Brother Blue Knights of the RGC: Make plans with your club NOW and
