Honor Flight '09

This was our second time to have the privilege to join up with the Patriot Guard to escort our much overlooked World War II Veterans on a trip to Love Field airport enroute to Washington D.C.

The Ellis County Honor Flight organization organizes and pays for a trip to Washington D.C. for a "Tour of Honor" that these Veterans will never forget.

The group left at 4:30 am on Tuesday morning the 5th of May and returned at 10:00 pm on Wednesday evening the 6th of May.  Even at these odd hours of the day, we had a great turnout with right around 21 bikes for each escort!

Many thanks go out to Sherrif Johnny Brown of Ellis County for all of his effort coordinating police escorts all the way too and from Love Field airport on both days! We had nearly as many police units with flashing lights as we did motorcycles, and the comment I most commonly heard was "that was the safest ride I've ever been on!"   A lot of the veterans said for the first time in their lives they felt like they were really something special.

On the return of these heroes, we had one of them ask us to stay for about 10 more minutes because at midnight he turned 91!  How, could we turn that down?  So we stayed around and everyone sang Happy Birthday to this 91 year old hero.

I would like to personally thank the Patriot Guard for all their help and coordination in making this a very successful event.
