Iron Butt Run

This was the 6th year that Texas 21 has had an organized, sanctioned, Iron Butt Ride in memory of Ken & Sandy Reeves daughter, Bonnie, to raise money for the Ellis County Childrens Advocacy Center (ECCAC) aka The Gingerbread House.

Over the first 5 years we have been able to raise over $30,000 to donate to the ECCAC and this year the donations have once again come through.  The final total is not in yet, it may take another week or so, but we did well.

We had several different rides this year, the SaddleSore 1,000, which is a certifiable ride with the Iron Butt Association.  The Hard Butt 500, and the Butt Slap 250, neither of which are certifiable rides with the Iron Butt Association, but are definitely certifiable through Blue Knights TX XXI!  And even better, all the rides make money for The Gingerbread House!!

This year we had 9 that made the SaddleSore 1,000 ride.  Dwight and his group had quite an adventure along the way, including nearly being blown off the highway by the infamous West Texas winds.  Then a flat tire, 100 miles from anywhere, interstate closures and detours!  Catch up with one of those riders to hear some of the stories.

There was a group of 5 that Tony Colonna led on the Hard Butt 500 ride, and they knocked it out somewhere around 10 - 11 hours.  Not bad for a bunch of first timer endurance riders!

We also had two others that made the Butt Slap 250 ride, and I didn't hear anything about that ride, so I assume all went well.  Outside of some wind, the weather was great and for the first time in my 6 years riding these, I didn't get rained on!!!

Of course when you are riding an endurance ride, it is very hard to get pictures on the road, so enjoy these pictures from our starting/ending location in Waxahachie at the Best Buy parking lot.  Oh yeah, many thanks to Best Buy for allowing us the use of their parking lot!!

Enjoy
